Background: In 2014 Citrus Suite combined with Innovate Dementia (Mersey Care NHS Trust & Liverpool John Moores University), to explore how a team from varied backgrounds could work together to design a new assisted living technology.

The project team, made up of app developers, clinicians, service users, and researchers, identified the need and features of the app. The start of a successful mission to “develop memory enabling technology which positively integrates into the lives of those living with dementia, is empowering and is specifically designed for a person with dementia (1st person), and has great benefits to carers.”

Co-creation sessions were followed by iterative versions of the app, each being tweaked and refined based on end-user feedback.

Trials followed through 2015, with Mersey Care, Liverpool SURF Group and East Cheshire Council.

Along this journey ReMind won an innovation award from the Digital Maze (supported by Riverside Housing, Liverpool CCG and Knowledge Transfer Network), was showcased in Europe and was featured on BBC radio.

Support from Waves of Hope, NWC AHSN, Chinese Wellbeing and Liverpool City region iNnovation Network (iN) has allowed Citrus to focus customised versions for YMCA service users and members of Liverpool’s Chinese community with an eye on social care deployments and export opportunities to China.
