Dementia is a major issue facing our society, with over 800,000 people living with the condition in the UK alone. Liverpool based design studio, Citrus Suite, decided it was time to take action and try to find a way to help people living with dementia and their carers. I spoke with Citrus Suite directors about the new app that is currently in development, trying to find out a brief outline of the app and the ongoing design process.
Steve Donovan, Citrus Suite’s Creative Director, informed me that the features of the app are confidential right now but they are designing alongside people who have dementia of different stages, which is giving Citrus a better idea on app functionality.
“We are fortunate to be working with Innovate Dementia and a great group of people who are dealing with the effects of dementia on a daily basis. The co-creation sessions have been invaluable and will allow us to create a great app” Steve told me.
Citrus Suite’s Managing Director, Chris Morland said, “We’ve really tried to give the end users of the app a voice in the design process and have tried understand how technology can have a positive impact on their lives.”
The Citrus directors explained that development is due to start soon. Citrus Suite are going to test the app with our team, as development proceeds, to see if any improvements can be made prior to release.
The app is coming this year, allowing people living with dementia and their support network the opportunity to trial this software.
